Top Causes of Impotence in Men

Impotence in men is the failure to achieve or maintain an erection during intercourse. Also termed as erectile dysfunction (ED), it may disrupt the physical and psychological well being of the individual and his partner. There may be a variety of causes why men may suffer from ED such as:

  • Less blood supply 
One of the most common causes is the narrowing of the arteries, leading to less blood supplied to the penile tissue. Erection happens when sufficient blood is pumped and retained in that organ. If that is not the case, it may lead to partial erection or a dysfunction. 

  • Diabetes

  • Psychological causes

Anxiety, depression and stress may lead to ED. Usually this problem is only temporary. For people who regularly cycle for long distance, impotence may be seen in them as cycling puts pressure on the nerves of that organ.

Some drugs may have it as a side effect. It is important to speak to the healthcare provider about the possibility of impotency before starting any  medication.
